MEN OF PROMISES BIBLE STUDY

Possessing the Promised Land

The Giants Are Not the Problem

CORE SCRIPTURE  —  NUMBERS 13:33 (NKJV)

“There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

Introduction

Every man has a promised land.

For some, it is becoming a better husband. For others, it is financial stability, spiritual maturity, leadership, healing, purpose, or influence. The problem is that many men assume that because God has promised something, the path to it will be easy.

Scripture teaches the opposite.

The Promised Land was occupied before Israel arrived. The blessing was prepared, but the territory was contested.

Many men abandon their promise because they mistake resistance for rejection.

God never promised there would be no giants.

He promised victory if they were willing to possess the land.

The Men of Promises Principle

Every Possession Comes With Contention

God gave the land. Israel still had to fight for it.

The promise established ownership. The battle established possession.

Many men today know what they should do:

  • Lead their family

  • Improve their finances

  • Build discipline

  • Strengthen their faith

  • Develop their purpose

Yet they hesitate because opposition appears.

Resistance is not evidence that you’re outside God’s will.

Often, resistance is evidence that you’re getting closer to it.

DISCUSSION QUESTION

What area of your life feels like a “promised land” that you’ve been hesitant to pursue because of opposition?

Lesson One  The Evidence Was Real

Numbers 13:27

The spies returned with proof. The land flowed with milk and honey. The grapes were enormous. Everything God said was true.

The promise wasn’t imaginary. The opportunity wasn’t exaggerated. The blessing wasn’t a myth.

Yet ten spies focused more on the giants than the grapes.

Many men do the same. They focus on:

  • The obstacles

  • The risks

  • The failures

  • The uncertainty

Instead of the evidence that God is already working.

MEN OF PROMISES REFLECTION

What evidence has God already provided that He is moving you toward your next season?

Lesson Two  The Giants Were Never the Real Problem

Numbers 13:33

“We were in our own sight as grasshoppers...”

Notice the order. They saw themselves as grasshoppers first. Then they assumed everyone else saw them the same way.

The real battle was identity. The giants did not defeat them. Their self-perception defeated them.

KEY PRINCIPLE

A man who sees himself as small will make every challenge appear larger than it actually is.

DISCUSSION QUESTION

What limiting belief about yourself has become bigger than God’s promise?

Lesson Three  The First Stage of Growth: Survival Thinking

Many men reach adulthood carrying:

  • Family wounds

  • Rejection

  • Failure

  • Shame

  • Broken expectations

  • Survival habits

These experiences shape how they interpret life.

Survival teaches:

  • Stay safe.

  • Avoid risk.

  • Protect yourself.

  • Expect disappointment.

But destiny requires something different. Growth requires a renewed mind.

The journey from survival to purpose begins when a man stops allowing yesterday’s experiences to define tomorrow’s possibilities.

CONSIDER

The first giant most men face isn’t in front of them.

It’s the voice they’ve carried within them.

Lesson Four  Joshua and Caleb Saw Something Different

Numbers 14:8-9

Joshua and Caleb saw the same land. They saw the same giants. They heard the same reports.

Yet they reached a different conclusion.

Why?

Because they measured the giants against God. The other spies measured themselves against the giants.

MEN OF PROMISES PRINCIPLE

Your perspective determines your progress.

When your focus is on the obstacle, fear grows.

When your focus is on the promise, faith grows.

The G.O.R. Connection

GROW

A man recognizes where survival thinking has shaped him.

OUTGROW

A man challenges limiting beliefs and old identities.

REGROW

A man develops a renewed identity aligned with God’s purpose and promise.

The Promised Land is often reached externally only after a man has possessed new territory internally.

Personal Inventory

Rate yourself from 1–10

Faith

Do I believe God’s promises are possible for me?

1  —  10

Courage

Am I willing to move despite fear?

1  —  10

Identity

Do I see myself through God’s perspective or my past experiences?

1  —  10

Action

Am I taking steps toward my promised land?

1  —  10

Challenge

This week, identify one giant that has been occupying territory God wants you to possess.

Write down:

  • The giant.

  • The fear attached to it.

  • The promise that opposes it.

  • One action step you will take this week.

CLOSING THOUGHT

The giants are not proof that you should turn around.

They are proof that there is something worth possessing.

A man of promise does not wait for the battle to disappear.

He grows, outgrows, and regrows until his faith becomes larger than his fear.

Because every possession comes with contention.

And every promise is worth pursuing.

MEMORY VERSE  —  JOSHUA 1:9

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

MEN OF PROMISES TAKEAWAY

“The land tests identity before it releases inheritance.”
